Julie has posted a quote at Happy Catholic that hit home, about the prayer God, show me a sign that You exist.

I wonder how many people have tried this prayer and received no response that satisfied them.  I wonder how many people have tried it and been satisfied.  I think I’ve heard more testimony from people who believe their request was satisfied, but then, that would stand to reason.

Of course, there are many believers who never prayed such a prayer because they have possessed faith all their lives.  What do they think of such testimony?

One response to “Yep. Me too.”

  1. I am getting the feeling that you think this is “testing” God by believers.
Every time I have read something (or from my own personal experience) about this, the question was being asked by people who did not believe. Raised by atheists, who told me that God was an imaginary persona invented and believed in by weak people who needed to lean on something to get them through life … seeing only television preachers asking for money … hearing only of what seemed to me to be sheer coincidences as testimonial “answers to prayer” … why on earth would I have any faith at all?
    I didn’t.
However, I kept questioning it to myself … how could I get any definitive answer to the question about whether God exists or not? I finally thought I would get the answer from the person Himself, should He actually exist. So I did what most would think worse than ask. I bet Him.
I will not bore you with the answer … but He handled it an an amazing way that not only gave me my answer but had me step out in faith first … after a year I told Him that He was off the hook and I didn’t want any payoff. That I believed anyway. Now maybe that was arrogant. He paid off anyway.
How I have envied the people who had faith all their life. Lucky people who have never questioned God. Unlike most of the folks in the Old Testament and, come to think of it, quite a few in the New.
