Self-check, two and a half weeks of the school year down.
So far, so good — or, some so good, some not so good.

There are several Melissa & Doug-type products that all ages have enjoyed: pattern boards with shapes (tangrams), ink stampers, and wooden puzzles. I also have the 1cm interlocking cubes for math, and even the 15mo enjoys putting those together.
I don’t know what your computer policy is for kids…how that figures into your screen time.LikeLike

Computer games time = screen time.
Video time = screen time.
Equally weighted.
I have all the “stuff” the 3yo is interested in. But when I’m trying to work with the 9yo one on one, the 3yo will have nothing else but one-on-one time herself. The only thing that gets her to stop interrupting us is screen time.LikeLike

Can the 6yo play with the 3yo during some of that time? It doesn’t always work, but often an older sibling can distract the 2 to 3 year old and play something outside or in their room or with blocks or whatever.
It’s the only thing that keeps screen time down for us.LikeLike

I have a busy 3yo who only naps sometimes … I haven’t started our school year with my 10,8,5 (and then the 3yo) kiddos … and I am also pregnant. Due in November.
This is what entertains my 3yo. He is a Montessori dream child. He makes up his own things to do and they are always something I saw somewhere from a Montessori suggestion.
He loves to do peg boards, play with marbles transferring them from water to dry, play with medicine droppers and water in the sink, take a nice long shower (and pump out all my shampoo!), do puzzles, play with tiny pieces sorting them into colors, play with our box of special rocks, play with my tin of select special items I’ve collected from around the house over time (old rings, broken earrings, a broken envelope opener from India of sandalwood, that kind of thing). He also loves to have a little mat or blanket to play on. He is learning well to clean it all up. He loves magnets, too. Being near us is good. He even adores regular sized legos! Hopefully some of these ideas are helpful.LikeLike
