If you’re tired of doing it the same old way, or looking for a better way, or trying to teach a child, look no further than Ian’s Shoelace Site.  (It also rates high on Ways To Waste Your Lunch Hour).  I found it after I realized that I’d inadvertently ordered gym shoes with traditional laces for Mary Jane instead of the slip-on kind with elastic laces, and went looking for a better shoe-tying method.

(OK, it was dumb of me, but the shoes are pretty groovy.  Other styles we’ve bought from that website for toddlers, have been great.  They’re pricey so I only bought them for ages 18-30 months, when they needed gym shoes for the YMCA child care but I still wanted a really flexible sole because they were used to Robeez.)

Back to the shoelace site:  I had to find one of Mark’s work boots to play around with tying the knots, because (it seems) I’ve nearly abandoned shoes with laces that you have to tie; the only shoes I have that need to be tied, I think, are my Doc Martens (put away for the summer) and my hiking boots, which I think are upstairs with the camping stuff.  I know exactly why that’s so:  babywearing.  It is extremely hard to tie your shoes when you’ve got a baby in the sling!  So I wonder… could the one handed shoelace knot (“NEW!”) help?

As for MJ, most likely I’ll just buy a set of the curly-ended laces — I hate tying kids’ shoes, and I think the curly ones work pretty well.
